DP Solutions Announces Strategic Relationship with TIMA to Deploy a Mobile Healthcare Platform

September 03, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
DP Solutions and Technology Integrations for Medical Applications, Inc. (TIMA) have joined forces to launch the TIMA Mobile platform that allows doctors to make house calls to patients and monitor their vital signs including heart rates, blood oxygen levels and more. The physician can then either store the information or send it over an Internet connection to a hospital where a specialist interprets the live data. Both doctor and specialist can also view the patient’s medical history, which is stored on remote computer servers.

Dr. S. Vincent Grasso, an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Stevens Institute of Technology and TIMA founder, has spent the past six years developing this comprehensive software system, which he believes will make house calls economically and technically feasible.

“Empowering physicians with a platform to perform house calls is an excellent choice for certain patients as it may help them avoid an unnecessary trip to the emergency room,” said Grasso “But if a hospital visit is necessary, the system can provide critical information to an emergency room physician along with the patient’s primary care physician and other specialists involved in the day to day care of the patient.”

The solution calls for a few standard technical requirements, including a PC or laptop, Internet connection (dial-up, broadband or wireless), telephone, digital voice recorder and a security device, such as a firewall or VPN. Doctors using the mobile solution will be provided with a laptop computer and a variety of standard medical devices such as a Vital Signs Monitor, a Digital Stethoscope, an ECG, Pulse Oximeter, Spirometer, and Holter Monitor. They will also be able to connect a Digital Camera and or Video Capture Device such as a Camcorder. More exotic medical devices including a compact Ultrasound Device and a Non Invasive Cardiac Output Monitor can be used.

From the information collected, the TIMA system has the ability to automatically generate a bill. Since the TIMA software runs as an ASP application from the DP Solutions data center located in Columbia, MD, the bill can be sent electronically to any payer via entities such as MD On-line, a New Jersey based healthcare clearinghouse.

“Is it possible to help the physician and the patient at the same time? I think yes. It’s about removing obstructions to improve the workflow process. Giving the physician the ability to go to the patient, perform an examination, perform additional tests, and move and track information smoothly is the goal. To do this you need the combination of technology, infrastructure, and relationships,” said Mac McElwee, Director of Healthcare Services at DP Solutions. It’s exciting to be associated with TIMA, medical device manufacturers, and clearinghouses via this mobile healthcare initiative.”
