US e-learning gurus Jay Cross and Josh Bersin team up with Learning Light

September 08, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Education News
The world-renowned e-learning writer, commentator and ‘guru’, Jay Cross, has agreed to write a monthly article, give a monthly podcast and take part in a quarterly ‘e-learning guru’ webinar for members of Learning Light (LL), a non-profit organisation which is establishing itself as a Centre of Excellence in the use of learning technologies in the workplace.

Cross, who is based in Berkeley, California, recently produced his first podcast for LL. Under the category of ‘Inspirational thinking’, the podcast is called ‘Leveraging communities of practice’.

Cross’ articles and podcasts are available to LL members via LL’s e-Portal – a growing archive of explanation, comment and analysis on e-learning and related topics, including HR and business strategy with regards to e-learning. The quarterly webinar takes the form of a discussion between Cross and Jane Knight, LL’s head of research, on key trends in e-learning on both sides of the Atlantic.

“Again, access to the webinar will be restricted to LL members,” Knight explained. “This is all part of LL’s strategy of securing, for its members, access to facts and opinions not generally available but which will provide invaluable insights into the principles and processes of e-learning – as well as how e-learning applications are bringing tangible organisational benefits.”

In another aspect of this strategy, LL has signed a ‘certified partner agreement’ with the California-based e-learning researcher and commentator, Josh Bersin. In return for LL helping Bersin’s research organisation – Bersin & Associates – to gather information about the e-learning market in the UK and Europe, Bersin will allow LL members to have regular, privileged access to significant parts of its research, particularly that relating to the UK and Europe

Mark Pittaway, CEO of Learning Light, commented: “We are delighted to have concluded agreements with Jay Cross and Josh Bersin on behalf of our members.

“It has taken us just six months to develop a raft of services and, underpinning these, an unrivalled – and growing - archive of information,” he added. “LL is now able to offer its members – who can be individual or corporate members - access to the results of world-class research into the application of technologies to learning.

“LL supplies learning technology knowledge and expertise to both buyers and suppliers of e-learning and related technologies,” said Pittaway. “Its rapidly growing wealth of knowledge and expertise can help anyone navigate their way through the complexities of procuring or marketing learning technologies.”

Knight commented: “LL is bringing together professionals from across the e-learning world to share information, insight and intelligence providing the day-to-day answers that everyone needs. Using online communities, networking events and conferences, we are at the forefront of sharing knowledge, experience and expertise.”
