OEDb: Online Education Database Launched

September 19, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Education News
OEDb today launched the Online Education Database Web site. OEDb.org features reviews of dozens of online universities and colleges and hundreds of distance learning degree programs which can be completed online. Degree subjects covered include business, medical, legal, arts, and more. OEDb also features a library of articles regarding online education and financial aid.

OEDb lead developer Jimmy Atkinson thinks OEDb will be an invaluable resource to individuals seeking an online degree. "There are a lot of students who want to know more about distance learning, specifically taking classes online and eventually earning a degree online, without ever leaving their homes. Our hope is for OEDb to educate these individuals seeking more information on such online programs," Atkinson says.

Taking classes and earning degrees online is becoming an important part of higher education. According to a report by the Sloan Consortium, 1.9 million students were taking online classes in fall of 2003. As Internet usage grows and the job market becomes more competitive, it is expected that the number of online students will continue to grow for many years to come.
