BELDEN® INTRODUCES NETWORK MANAGEMENT CAPABILITIES FOR ITS POWERSENSE™ POWER OVER ETHERNET HUBS

September 21, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
RICHMOND, IN – Belden, a world leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of signal transmission products for data networking and a wide range of specialty electronics markets, announces the introduction of its Managed PowerSense Midspan Power over Ethernet Hubs. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is the technology that allows powering of such devices as VoIP phones, wireless access points, IP security cameras, and a host of emerging products over the LAN data cabling infrastructure.

Centralized powering of these networked devices saves end users time and money over traditional powering techniques. Modular Belden PowerSense Midspan PoE Hubs can provide further cost savings through the continued use of existing non-powered Ethernet switches. With the addition of network management features, Belden PowerSense Hubs will deliver even greater cost savings for large distributed networks by allowing greater levels of monitoring and control of powered end devices.

According to Lance Rasmussen, PowerSense Products Sales Manager for Belden: “Corporate network managers want better control and management of all their network appliances. Now that our PowerSense Midspan Hubs are available with network management capabilities, they offer an ideal choice, especially for applications powering wireless access points (APs) and IP security cameras. These devices typically have software upgrades that require rebooting the AP or camera. With our managed PoE solution, they can simply turn power on or off throughout the distributed network from a central site.”

Ron Bose, PowerSense VP of Engineering for Belden, notes: “We are constantly listening to our customers’ needs and requirements and developing new PowerSense products to meet them. Our new network management capabilities will enhance the end user experience and reduce administration time and costs. Over the past year, we have built a solid foundation of introducing new PowerSense PoE capabilities, including modules supporting Gigabit Ethernet, high wattage Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) IP cameras, and an entire family of PoE Connectors to provide low-cost support for non-standard PoE protocols to power 24V, 12V and 5V devices.”
