South Shore Elder Services in Braintree Names Deborah Colgan as the new Director of Community Development

For the past two years, Ms. Colgan has served as the Regional Family Support Coordinator at South Shore Elder Services. She was responsible for coordinating a collaborative of six elder care agencies in the provision of regional family support programs and free short term caregiver support programs for those caring for elders over the age of 60 and grandparents raising their grandchildren.

In her new position as Director of Community Development, Ms. Colgan will focus on the 11 towns in the South Shore Elder Services network and manage a team within South Shore Elder’s aging department to achieve several objectives including: developing new partnerships in the community; educating seniors about issues of aging; crisis planning for families; increased volunteerism; raising the general awareness of South Shore Elder Services in all elders age 60 years and older and increasing the agency’s capacity to serve the minority community.

“Our job is to help people understand the breadth of the services that South Shore Elder Services offers. Our intent is to reach out to the community and help elders, families and caregivers plan and prepare for the future to help elders remain at home,” explained Ms. Colgan.

Ms. Colgan has spent 30 years as a clinician in adult education and mental health and for the last six years, in the elder services industry. For four years previous to South Shore Elder Services, she was the Volunteer Coordinator at Minutemen Senior Services in Burlington, MA. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology as well as a Master’s degree in Adult Education and is a member of the American Counseling Association.

Ms. Colgan is a native of Arden, DE.
