One Stop Systems Earns “Best of Show” Award at Intel Developer Forum

October 04, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Escondido, Calif. – One Stop Systems, Inc. (www.onestopsystems.com), a global provider of PCI Express-based (PCIe) systems and components for the industrial computing market, today announced its super-fast disk array access using PCIe over cable earned “Best of Show” at the 3rd Annual Technology Innovation Accelerated Awards held at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco. One Stop Systems’ 3U PCIe RAID storage system is the first of its kind, offering a robust rack mount system that provides 12 hot-swappable SATA II / SAS drives for a total storage capacity of up to six terabytes.

Sixteen demos in a total of six categories vied as finalists for the awards, which recognize technological pioneering and adoption of Intel’s platform strategy. The company’s platform strategy centers on the integration of suites of hardware, software, services and support that enable new capabilities for people in all facets of their lives – at work and at home, in productivity, information, entertainment and healthcare.

“We are honored to be recognized and excited to bring to market a product that offers higher performance, lower cost to implement, easy upgradeability and simpler software interfacing for our customers,” said CEO Steve Cooper. “Our RAID system gives any PC added functionality, meaning that applications like broadcasting, sound and video editing, medical imaging and scanning devices can operate using the latest technology and cost efficiency of today's PCs,” he added.

The RAID system operates from a host PC when the PCIe x4 or x8 adapter card is inserted into the host PC’s PCIe slot. The system supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and JBOD; and Intelligent “multiple logical drive” architecture allows the combination of different RAID levels on one set of disks. Hot-swappability facilitates the replacement of failed drives and makes this 12-drive storage system suitable for network attached storage (NAS), security and surveillance, disk-to-disk backup, and video editing. A 200-watt power supply and two exhaust fans ensure optimal performance.

A higher data transfer rate is achieved through multiple channel access, and disk arrays provide reliability. The RAID controller organizes data on the drives and controls the flow of data to and from the host computer. This allows the user to write/read data to the drive array from the host PC at speeds up to 20Gb/s by simply installing the attached PCIe x8 adaptor board into a PCIe slot in the host PC and cabling it to the RAID system. The 3U, 12-drive PCIe x4 RAID Array lists for $3,748 and the PCIe x8 RAID Array lists for $3,841 (drives not included). Both are available immediately.
