Blackwell Publishing Launches Early Intervention in Psychiatry

October 04, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Melbourne, Australia — 4 October, 2006— Early Intervention in Psychiatry is targeted at international researchers in all major psychiatric disorder groups – clinicians, primary health care workers, health planners and policy makers. The journal aims to create a common forum that will enable researchers and clinicians working across the full spectrum of disorders with a special interest in their early phases to share ideas, experiences and data.

Editor-in-Chief of Early Intervention in Psychiatry, Professor Patrick McGorry, said “In contrast with mainstream healthcare, early diagnosis and intervention has come late to the field of psychiatry. Building on the exponential progress in early psychosis over the past decade, as well as widespread interest around the world in preventive psychiatry, it is now timely to broaden the early intervention focus.”

Early Intervention in Psychiatry will publish articles dealing with the early recognition, diagnosis and treatment across the full range of mental and substance use disorders, as well as the underlying epidemiological, biological, psychological and social mechanisms that influence the onset and early course of these disorders.

Mark Robertson, President of Blackwell Publishing in Asia, said, “We are excited at the great potential for growth with this journal, and at how this partnership gives a greater dimension to the width and depth of journals published by Blackwell Publishing in Asia.”

Professor McGorry added, “I am confident Early Intervention in Psychiatry will not only fill a long standing gap in academic and clinical psychiatry, but also push the existing boundaries in this field of practice.”
