ST. LOUIS – Lee Biosolutions is now offering 99% pure myoglobin in three forms as part of the company’s cardiac marker product line at www.LeeBio.com.

Myoglobin is an oxygen transporting protein found in muscle. It is of special interest to cardiac researchers trying to better understand its role in the prediction, diagnostics and treatment of heart attacks.

“Myoglobin has definitely become an item of interest within the medical research community,” Lee Biosolutions President Burton Lee said. “Researchers are constantly learning more about the protein’s role in monitoring heart attacks and other dangerous medical conditions.”

Lee Biosolutions is offering myoglobin antigen derived from human heart tissue, anti-human myoglobin from chicken and sheep hosts, and engineered recombinant myoglobin.

The Myoglobin products are part of Lee Biosolutions’ family of cardiac marker products which includes C-Reactive Protein, Myeloperoxidase, Troponins ,CK isoenzymes and lipoproteins. Cardiac markers are materials found in blood whose levels increase in the hours following a heart attack. Increased levels help diagnose a heart attack and normal levels rule it out.

Myoglobin is of special interest because it has the earliest diagnostic window. It’s the first marker to rise after chest pain begins. According to current research, Myoglobin levels rise within two to three hours, and can actually begin rising as early as 30 minutes after a heart attack. They peak after six to nine hours and return to normal within 24-36 hours.

A rise in myoglobin supports a diagnosis of heart attack, but it’s not conclusive. Myoglobin levels are more commonly used to rule out a heart attack. If myoglobin levels have not risen after more than five hours, a heart attack in unlikely. Normal levels in the first two to three hours do not rule out an infarction.
