Bit Group offer vendor-neutral anti-cyber crime courses

October 08, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
IT training specialists Bit Group, based in Graz, Austria, but with branches in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Russia, has become an approved training centre for delivering penetration tester, ethical hacker, security analyst and forensic investigator courses.

Having celebrated 20 years in business this month, Bit’s first move – as it embarked on its 21st year – was to introduce these anti-cyber crime programmes, developed by EC-Council and distributed throughout Europe by specialist cyber crime fighters, SSR-i.

Bit Group, which offers not only IT training but also management training and consulting, along with e-learning materials, has built up a client list of over 4,000 organisations in Austria alone.

“Know-how recognises no boundaries,” explained Bit’s chief executive, Wolfgang Schaffer. “Today, as borders within Europe open ever wider, holistic and cross-border education is essential for expanding everyone’s horizons.

“Of course, cyber crime also knows no national boundaries,” he added. “We believe that it is essential to offer our clients – throughout Europe – the best, vendor-neutral courses that will help them avoid becoming the victims of cyber crime or, if they do become victims, will help them to find the culprits and prevent the same thing happening to them again.

“Consequently, we have chosen to offer these SSR-i/EC-Council courses.”

Rajive Kapoor, of SSR-i, said: “While organisations are making considerable efforts to counter cyber crime and its effects on their business, there is still evidence that they do not understand the scope and size of these threats to their systems.

“Managers, especially those in the IT department, can underestimate the part played by the human element in allowing cyber crime to flourish. To counter this, they need to consider enterprise education at all levels.

“Industry spent millions to combat the millennium bug - and nothing happened! Unlike the millennium bug, cyber crime exists – and the losses due to cyber theft are considerably more than what we spent on the millennium bug.

“We can’t eradicate cyber crime but, through proper training, we can reduce the results of cyber crime to a minimum,” he added. “Education and understanding the issue comes first; then prevention.

“That is why Bit adding the SSR-i/EC-Council courses to its portfolio is an important step towards providing the products and services that all organisations need in order to protect themselves from the consequences of cyber crime.”

About SSR-i
SSR-i has been formed as the master distributor in the UK and Europe for the products developed by the EC-Council – the international organisation driving standards and skills for e-Commerce Consultants.

The launch platform in the UK is the Licensed Penetration Tester programme that allows organisations to test their networks using the approaches and techniques that hackers would use. This program develops skills for Ethical Hacking, Forensics and Penetration Testing that will identify weaknesses and plug them – before malicious hackers get to them.

SSR-i programmes are delivered via some 90 delivery locations throughout Europe in association with its group of European partners including Training Camp and ASG training in the UK; New Horizons and Training Camp in Germany; Upgrade and GED Systemes in France; GKN in the Netherlands and Denmark.

SSR-i’s courses include:
• Licensed Penetration Tester (LPT) – which allows organisations to test their networks using approaches and techniques that hackers would use.
• Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) - certifies individuals in the specific network security discipline of ethical hacking from a vendor-neutral perspective.
• Certified Security Analyst (ECSA) – the next step for IT and information security professionals who have already achieved the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification.
• Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) – which enables organisations to identify a path that an intruder took over the network; reveal intermediate intrusions and provide leads and corroborating evidence for disciplinary action.
• Disaster Recovery
• Security 5 - an entry level training and certification for those interested in computer networking and security basics, to help them guard their information assets.
