Facet Technology Corp. Announces New Web Service

Facet Technology Corp., the leading provider of precision street-level roadway imagery, is pleased to announce the release of its new Web service. The Web service provides for the delivery of Facet’s extensive inventory of georeferenced intersection and Point of Interest (POI) images to wireless devices. Facet’s existing inventory includes more than 1.5 billion images, with coverage of 2 million intersections and POIs. Facet currently serves the Portable Navigation Device (PND), smartphone, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and Location-based services (LBS) markets.

Studies have shown that incorporating imagery into vehicle navigation creates a more effective, efficient and user preferred navigation environment. Facet is the clear market leader for intersection and POI content creation, with over 2 billion new images scheduled for collection in 2007.

The W3C compliant Web service is engineered to require only minimal technical resources for implementation. A device sends a request, with a Lat/Lon or street address, for an intersection image or POI to the Web service via a wireless network. Facet Technology’s Web service returns the image or images requested from the inventory of geocoded imagery.

Facet Technology is making sample imagery available through the Web service to wireless device manufacturers and application providers, for developmental purposes, at no cost. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Facet Technology.
