October 12, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
PETALUMA, Calif. and CHELMSFORD, Mass., Oct. 12, 2006 – OpenClovis Inc., provider of the premier open source, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) application service platform for the telecommunications industry, and Airvana, Inc., an innovative provider of mobile broadband infrastructure based on third-generation (3G) wireless packet data, today announced that Airvana will incorporate the OpenClovis Application Service Platform (ASP) as part of its next generation IP-based broadband wireless voice and data network architecture.

The OpenClovis ASP consists of an extensive set of management software modules running on a distributed, model-driven core infrastructure. Modules may be selected to best match the application and platform requirements. The OpenClovis ASP can be distributed across blades, shelves, and even racks, creating a seamless high availability platform and system management environment across heterogeneous network element building blocks.

“We selected the OpenClovis ASP as the best choice for our next generation platform after a five-month evaluation of several commercial–off-the-shelf telecommunications middleware solutions,” said Frank Chen, vice president of New Network Infrastructure at Airvana. “OpenClovis is leading the industry with its robust, high performance solution and will help us give the wireless mobile communications industry the flexibility and carrier-grade functionality it demands, in a fraction of the time it took with traditional platforms.”

Airvana is a leader in mobile broadband network infrastructure systems based on Internet Protocol (IP). Airvana’s IP-based products deliver carrier-grade mobility, scalability and reliability, and are optimized for mobile broadband multimedia service deployment.

“Wireless communications providers are converging their voice and data traffic onto a common network to support feature-rich wireless services such as interactive 3D gaming, mobile music, mobile television and video telephony and voice,” said V.K. Budhraja, CEO of OpenClovis. “OpenClovis’ robust platform will help Airvana satisfy carrier demands for interoperability, manageability and affordability, while speeding its products to market in record time.”

Leading wireless service providers such as Verizon Wireless (USA), Sprint PCS (USA), Bell Mobility (Canada), and Telus (Canada) integrate Airvana products into their networks, and Airvana technology is an integral element of solutions provided by leading telecommunications systems providers such as Nortel. Networks based on Airvana’s technology support a wide range of mobile broadband information, communication and entertainment applications, and millions of subscribers throughout the world.
