Wolf by Eben Reilly reveals teenage life in Vermont

October 13, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Okay, a guy selling ad space had given me the name of some other guy, Brandon, at Revolver. My publisher at Braiswick had just purchased ad space at the magazine, and said try for a review.

Revolver, is the sacred scripture of Heavy Metal to a few hundred thousand readers: my son and co-author, Ben Ressler, among them

So I dropped this guy an email.

Hey,

Got your name from Scott - just confirmed ad space in Revolver for upcoming novel WOLF to be published Oct 1 by Braiswick, based in Felixstowe England. (www.braiswick.com) Perhaps, you'd like a review copy— if you'd like one sooner, my publisher has just sent a PDF file to another reviewer. Briefly:

Set in the southern Vermont town of West Raven, WOLF tells the parallel tales of two teens: Adam Pierce, up for the summer from NYC to work for an uncle who sells parts from the hundred or so junked cars that litter his property, and Shane Sewill, a neighbor who works a dead-end job at the local bottle redemption store. However, not until the appearance of Adam's father, a Gulf War Vet whose spirit dwells in a junked van, and a mystical wolf-dog can their stalled lives be jump-started into movement.

Hard Rock and Heavy Metal draw together both the living and the dead in this tale of ghosts encountered and spirits set free.

all the best— Eben Reilly

When under ten minutes later I get his reply, okay I think, this guy Brandon must be at the bottom of the heap at Revolver with very little else to do.

Yeah, send a copy/galley/whatever (PDF doesn't work so well for me).
Looking forward to it. Thx, -B
Okay, whoever B. is, he’s certainly approachable. So the next day before I set off to Manhattan with the manuscript, I go back to B’s email to check the address and see that B is Brandon Geist, is the Executive Editor of Revolver.

Oh.

Now fully informed, in the brilliant light and cool breezes of a perfect summer waning in NYC afternoon, I meet my creative collaborator Ben in front of Barnes and Nobles at Union Square. I give him WOLF like an Olympic runner passing the torch - well, we did at least walk fast because I had to get back to work, and Ben had to meet his sister Moriah at the train station back in our funky neighborhood. Anyway - we come to 149 Fifth Avenue, and I tell Ben I’ll wait downstairs - what Metalhead wants to walk into the offices of Revolver Mag with his mom?

Five-ten minutes later he comes back down. No, he hadn’t gotten a receipt. No he hadn’t even left it with a secretary, Why not? (My teenage son and I may write together, but I’m still a mom.) Because he had given it directly to Brandon Geist who shook Ben’s hand and gave him the latest issue of Revolver.

Metalhead heaven for my kid.
