Small Business Owners Can Leverage Time With Technology

Business processes take on a whole new dimension as small companies grow and take on new customers. That’s the way it is according to Randy Moretz, CEO of The Cardinal Group out of Clearwater, Florida.

“Smaller companies have a unique challenge,” Moretz said. “They don’t have deep pockets like multinationals or large corporations with hundreds or thousands of employees, and the amount of time they can spend on a task is limited by the number of hands and feet they have inside their walls.”

While time management is an issue for any business, it is an essential element of success for a small company, which takes on additional responsibilities with every new customer but isn’t able to hire new employees due to the nature of small business economics. Moretz, himself the owner of a small business since 1997, said every customer adds a new challenge to time management because a company has to find the internal resources to handle the additional commitments.

“That’s why some small business owners can’t grow beyond a ‘one-man show’ capacity. It’s because they just don’t have the time or the money to spend on finding the necessary help so that they can leverage themselves to focus on managerial responsibilities,” Moretz said.

Companies in that boat do have options, however. Voice loggers allow small companies to record phone calls to increase their ability to handle customer service issues. That saves them time and money in the long run as they don’t need to hire clerical help to file reams and reams of notes from telephone conversations.

Also, virtual assistants free up business owners’ time by cutting the need for a receptionist to answer phones. Thanks to modern technology, a virtual assistant can notify a business owner who is traveling when a fax comes in to the office back home. This leverages the business owner’s time and the cost is much less than hiring an employee.
