Writing Competition - Spread the Love with a Story

October 29, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
They say love makes the world go round – it’s the most sung about, written about and talked about topic on the planet; now Smink Works Books is inviting writers to ‘spread the love’ via its annual short story competition.

And so the theme of this year’s competition is: The Three Forms of Love - Eros, Pathos, and Agape; eros being an erotic form of love, pathos meaning friendship love, and agape, the love of all living things, or unconditional love.

The theme is open to creative interpretation by writers, but Smink Works Books publisher Suzanne Male points out that they do have one stipulation - they are seeking only positive, enriching tales. “Writers can write about one of the forms of love, or all three,” she says. "But we're after heart-warming rather than heart-breaking stories."

The standout stories entered into the competition will be published in an anthology.

“The idea is to produce a book with stories that are not only original, but will inspire and uplift readers,” Ms Male says.

Competition entries can be up to 1000 words and the competition closes on 1 December 2006. The first prize winner will receive $100, second prize winner $60, and third prize-winning story will garner $40 for its writer. There is an entry fee of $10 and the competition will be judged by author and accomplished short-story winner Georgiann Baldino.
