Making Memories is a charitable, non-profit organization founded for the express purposeof granting memory-making events and last wishes to women and men who suffer from metastatic breast cancer. Making Memories is able to grant these wishes by selling wedding gowns that have been donated by manufacturers, bridal shops and individuals. As you may know, metastatic breast cancer is breast cancer that has spread from the breast to other areas of the body, most often bones, lungs, liver and brain. Once diagnosed, it is considered terminal, as there has yet to be a cure for breast cancer once it leaves its original site.

Wish Granting Foundation

Making Memories was co-founded in 1998 by the mother /daughter team of Fran Hansen and Anna Nelson - Orr from Portland, OR. Their story has received national coverage from Oprah, MSNBC, Redbook, Newsweek, Time Magazine, Woman’s Day, Martha Stewart Weddings, Shape magazine and Sirius Radio to mention a few. They were named Trendsetters of the Year by Modern Bride Magazine and they were honored as “Women Who Make A Difference” in Family Circle Magazine.

Many people know that breast cancer is the second highest cancer killer of women in the United States, but it is a little know fact that it is the number one cancer killer of women between the ages of 15 and 54. The human toll of these statistics is staggering. Small
children are left without their mothers. Husbands are left to raise families on their own.

There are currently 2.8 million women in America diagnosed with breast cancer. This number is increasing rapidly - over 200,000 will be diagnosed this year and nearly 42,000 women are expected to die of the disease in 2006.

Wishes Granted
Wish requests include trips to Disney World for families with young children, second honeymoons, family reunions, cruises, video cameras to leave behind recorded messages, Christmas gifts and laptop computers to keep up on current breast cancer research. Bill Gates, Faith Hill, LA Lakers, Green Bay Packers and the Cleveland Indians have all
granted wishes to terminal patients for Making Memories.
