Pauline Fulford has assumed a wide-ranging role with the Horwich-based company - including IT, quality control, contracts and general procedures as well as financial affairs.

The mother-of-two was attracted into the world of learning by her children who have recently started school. She wants to inspire others to get a firm footing on the career ladder or develop their exciting job roles.

“This is an overall management role of which finance is only one part where I will be improving management reporting and other information so that we can make better decisions. On IT it’s about keeping up to date with technology to improve efficiency, spanning both hardware and software. We also need to make sure we have the best procedures in place, right from recruiting learners through to their actual course content.”

Pauline joins Alliance Learning from Greater Manchester Police where she was employed as a management accountant, responsible for providing a comprehensive management accountancy service including budgeting, forecasting, planning, investment appraisal and efficiency reviews.

She describes herself as a dedicated, self-motivated professional with over six years post qualified experience of financial management.

The 40-year-old from Mere View, Bury, has been involved in finance since leaving school, and explained: “I was always good at Maths at school and knew before I left what I wanted to do. I went into a local auditing firm, then branched out into management accounting roles.”

She continued: “I want to provide a better quality of information to enable us to make better decisions, and help grow the business.

“Education is a sector I have not previously worked in but it is an area quite close to my heart because I have two young children just starting school. The ethics of Alliance are quite heart warming where they take young people and develop them so that they can get a job. Those in employment can also train to further develop their careers, so it’s very rewarding being here.”

Alliance Learning specialises in commercial training courses and apprenticeships, working with companies big and small across the region in a range of areas, such as; Administration, Children’s Care Learning and Development, Electrical Engineering and also Warehousing and Distribution. Complementing flagship Horwich headquarters are satellite bases in the town centres of Bolton, Radcliffe and Leigh.

Pauline concluded: “My role is to provide the facilities that enable things to be done better, quicker, smarter and more efficiently.”
