KIRK (a SpectraLink company), makers of massively popular DECT handset technology and CommtechWireless, message solution providers, have recently collaborated on the creation of bundled communications solutions messaging to mobile technology.

Collaboration between CommtchWireless and KIRK (a SpectraLink Company)has resulted in the integration KIRKs handsets with plug & play Fusion Series modules.

The first of four new solutions, the Fusion Series Alarm Dispatch Module (ADM) makes available, in a first of its kind, a dedicated KIRK interface that allows messages to be sent to handsets in the event of an alarm from third party monitoring systems. Up to 16 wired inputs can be programmed to send an alert to KIRK recipients during a fire alarm, a machine fault alarm, a security breach or a duress call.

With the Central Control Module (CCM) in the Fusion Series, CommtechWireless and KIRK offer simultaneous broadcast messages to all registered handsets. Free internal text messages can be sent over the LAN/WAN via the CCM and out to KIRK handsets. The central database of the Fusion Series allows for common messages as well as a sent and received audit trail.

In another new offering, email can be sent to KIRK handsets using the CCM. The SMTP interface available for the CCM allows every KIRK handset on the system to be assigned an email address. Messages sent in the email format are then received on the relevant handset as a text message.

Finally, the KIRK and Fusion Cellular Messaging Module (CMM) and CCM bundle brings SMS messaging to cordless handsets. Mobile phone users can send an SMS to the CCM which then sends it to KIRK handsets or to other mobile phones via the inbuilt GSM modem of the CMM.

These offerings bring the technology of DECT handsets more inline with 3G mobile telephones. This provides communications systems for installations where a mobile network is not viable or not possible - such as mission critical environments with electronic restrictions.

John Jordan of CommtechWireless reports that the two technologies are so in tune, they complement each other.

“When we designed the Fusion Series, we were thinking about cordless handsets but only in a generic way. Now that the product is complete, it turns out that KIRK’s great systems are a perfect match for what it can achieve. One technology adds features to the other. It’s the perfect complement.”
