Scenic Airlines Moves to Boulder City Municipal Airport

Boulder City, Nevada (November 15th) – Las Vegas Grand Canyon Tour operator Scenic Airlines has become the most recent addition to a growing “family,” moving their flight operations to the Boulder City Municipal Airport (61B) earlier this month. Scenic Airlines is one of several Grand Canyon tour companies taking up permanent residence at the expanding airport west of Hoover Dam due to rising fuel costs and increasing air traffic around McCarran International Airport.

The move is expected to be a “win-win” situation for both Scenic Airlines and Boulder City. The airfield’s location provides for more direct access to the company’s Grand Canyon tour routes over Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. The ongoing expansion of the Boulder City Airport is expected to triple the number of departures out of the facility annually with little disturbance to local residents.

Scenic Airlines’ passengers stand to benefit as well, as Las Vegas shuttle pickups will now occur about 10 minutes later than they had previously. The change is also a plus for guests at Henderson and Boulder City hotels who used to have to travel to the Strip in order to catch shuttle busses to the North Las Vegas Airport.

Scenic Airlines had operated out of the North Las Vegas Airport since the mid-1990’s. Their administrative and reservations offices will remain at that facility for the time being. The Boulder City Airport actually has a long history with Las Vegas Grand Canyon tours. The very first Grand Canyon tour airline, “Scenic Airways,” had a base at the field back in the 1930’s.

Scenic Airlines offers Grand Canyon tours to Grand Canyon West and the South Rim, which also include flyovers of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Their tour prices will continue to include pickup and dropoff at most major hotels on the Strip and Downtown.
