Tej Kohli foundation helps region build sports facility
(
PRLEAP.COM) Manuel once was only able to dream of playing soccer well. He could watch games played on TV or on very special occasions in a stadium when his dad took him into the city for his birthday, but the reality of life in his own poverty-stricken village meant there was no money to either build a new soccer park or to repair its decrepit old one.
That is, until the Tej Kohli Foundation learned of the plight of kids like Manuel in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. Established as a charity to raise funds for children’s educational needs, the foundation nonetheless saw the value in providing a decent sports facility for the region: it would provide a safe and organized place for kids to burn off energy and keep them out of mischief and crime, while also teaching them valuable life skills like teamwork and sportsmanship.
“I recall just how big an impact playing sports like soccer had on me as a child,” says foundation founder Tej Kohli, who grew up half a world away in New Delhi, India. “It gave me an outlet for my frustrations at growing up poor and playing well built my esteem in a way that inspired me to start my own business and succeed in that arena as well.”
Now that Tej Kohli has built a successful career as the head of Grafix Software and relocated himself to Costa Rica, he could opt to just kick back and enjoy the spoils of his success amid the lush jungles and ocean views of this Central American nation. But thanks to his caring mindset and good heart, he has looked for ways to help the people of his adoptive nation and strives to do so in the future as well.
