Veteran Comedian and Comedy Writer Publishes Book about Stand-Up Comedy
(
PRLEAP.COM) During the late-1980’s, When Matt Wohlfarth decided to enter the competitive field of stand-up comedy and went looking for information about how to do it, the only resources available to him were one-liner joke books and audio tapes at the local library.
Even today, while there are many books filled with jokes and humor, there are still a dearth of books that tell the novice how to go from being funny for friends to being funny at 8:00 on a Friday night for a room full of strangers.
Wohlfarth, who performs under the stage name Buzz Nutley, has decided to change that.
The veteran comedian and comedy writer has distilled nearly two decades on hands-on comedy experience into his new book, "ABC’s of Standup Comedy," which is available as a downloadable e-book on his web site,
www.midlifecrisiscomedy.com.
Wohlfarth, who in recent years has found himself mentoring a number of both young and not-so-young comedic upstarts, says the book is filled with "numerous lessons I learned right after I said to myself, ‘I wish someone had told me that.’"
The book is a combination of comedy dictionary and user-friendly reference manual for amateur and veteran comedians alike. Veteran comedians who have read the book include Jimmy Brogan, former head comedy writer and talent booker for The Tonight Show, who said the book is “like having a great coach in your corner," adding that Wohlfarth is “the Coach K of Comedy.”
As a performer, Wohlfarth has delivered laughs in a variety of venues and media, from television and radio programs to bars, comedy clubs, fire and VFW halls, theaters and even living rooms. His extensive experience includes working alongside such comedy greats as Louie Anderson, Mitch Hedberg, Brian Regan, Jon Stewart and Yakov Smirnoff.
As a comedy writer, he has scripted jokes for Jay Leno, Andy Williams and others, and is a regular contributor to Reader’s Digest. His jokes are also featured in such nationally published books as Jokes to Go, Comedy Thesaurus and Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader.
And, he has written material for Smirnoff’s successful shows at the comedian’s Branson, MO theater and his one-man Broadway show, As Long as We Both Shall Laugh.
Last year, Wohlfarth created—and serves as producer and co-headliner—of the critically acclaimed Midlife Crisis Comedy Tour, a national comedy which features four comedians talking about the hilarious realities of the midlife experience from four distinct perspectives.
"ABC’s of Standup Comedy" is available on line from the Midlife Crisis Comedy Tour website at
