Tha Heights--Taking Urban Music to a New Level

(PRLEAP.COM) November 2006, New York, NEW YORK—When people see four good-looking young men take the stage at a concert, the immediate reaction could justifiably be, ‘Oh. Boy-band.” New to the music scene is an uptown quartet who is going to forever change the way audiences feel about all-male music groups. Tha Heights are not the average boy-band artists, a statement that becomes undeniably true as people take in everything about the young men.

Tha Heights were signed to Patricia Taylor and OFFbeat Entertainment in 2003, but had gotten their start long before that in their hometown of Washington Heights, NY. Their inspirational artists range from Donny Hathaway and Celia Cruz to Boyz II Men and Larry Graham, a key element in their ability to create music for a wide-range, all-inclusive audience. Their sound is indicative of the neighborhood where it was born, and Tha Heights have coined it as, “Latin Pop & B.”

Yes, but can they sing? Since the group signed with OFFbeat, they’ve been entertaining crowds throughout the Metropolitan area, not once failing to overwhelmingly satisfy. Most recently Tha Heights performed at a LifeBeat concert in August, as well as at both MusikFest in Philadelphia and Kids Arts Week NY in New York City. They have also been featured at the famous 116th Street Festival in Spanish Harlem, at Bronx Week 2005, and at New Jersey’s Latin Expo. Telemundo 47’s morning news, Noticias has also featured them several times as guests.

If they don’t seem omnipresent enough, Tha Heights are also the official Spokespeople for Bazooka Bubble Gum. They are featured in the fall campaign commercials for Bazooka, airing on television stations like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Nick @ Nite, and ABC Family. Audiences should look forward to the Bazooka Bubblegum dance and video.

The Heights are currently in the studio revamping their demo with Gary “JusMusic” Gentles and with Connecticut producer Alloy “FAL” Hume whose talents were employed in Mario’s ‘Nike’s Fresh Out The Box.’ Writers Shatic “Phenom” Mitchell and new teen sensation Jason Dendy PKA Boxie—who is signed to Get Right Records— collaborated to create new lyrics, and Dan Stokes of the 90’s Group SOLO is also contributing his creative input.
