Let the Games Begin. National Games Week Set for Thanksgiving Week

(PRLEAP.COM) Broomfield, CO - After the turkey dinner is cleared from the table, let the games begin!

MSM, the official organizers of National Games Week, have put the stuffing back into family time with a weeklong focus that is perfectly timed when families and friends are together.

Thanksgiving is the top travel time of the year. “Depending on your job situation, it is almost always guaranteed to be a 4-day weekend. That is enough time to make a trip to see relatives and friends,” according to Mark Simmons, founder of National Games Week.”It was a natural selection to have National Games Week take place when people are gathered together.”

Now in its third year, National Games Week is the annual celebration that identifies the week of Thanksgiving as a time when families and friends reserve quality time for one another by playing traditional, non-electronic games together.

Simmons, whose MSM company is also publisher of Games Quarterly Magazine and organizer of Games Expo 2007, a huge exposition and trade show for games, explained, “Playing games, especially board games and card games, is a perfect, social forum where families and friends can enjoy each others company. The games available today a far superior to what adults might recall from their youth. Friendly competition creates a great, memorable experience for everyone. People are really looking for ways to have good, wholesome fun. Watching TV and playing video games can not bring about the social interaction that board, card and party games can.”

It seems to be true. Last year, National Games Week tracked 4,437 game events across the country, and the 2006 Games Week is already bigger and better given the early statistics compiling on the National Games Week website, www.nationalgamesweek.net. The site is taking registrations from individuals, families, schools, community organizations, singles groups, senior centers, and lots of associations who want to officially take part in the fun. “Each year we add to the web site. People tell us their favorite games, uploading pictures of their events, and game retailers are posting dates and times in a public calendar of events so that people can attend, “ Simmons explained. “The website has free resources for downloads, including Tell-A-Friend and e-invites. One of my favorite results is a list of the Top 100 Games played during National Games Week.”

The weeklong celebration has dozens of game publisher sponsors that have embraced the quality time and good-natured theme. The sponsors are listed on the web site.
