Palo Alto, Calif, November 19, 2006 – Two local jewelry bead artists are hosting a special holiday craft gallery and sale featuring the stunning works of two Oaxacan artists on December 9 and 10 from 11AM to 4PM at 2025 Tasso St, Palo Alto.

Oaxaca, one of Palo Alto’s sister cities, is the home of many fine artisans. Two of these Oaxacan artists, a husband and wife, are bringing their rug weavings and colorful painted animal wood carvings for a second year in a row to display at a holiday showing in Palo Alto. Felipe Hernandez, the rug weaver, is originally from the village Teotitlan del Valle, and his wife wood carver wife, Maria, is from Xoxocotlan. Their fine handiwork came to the attention of Palo Alto resident and jewelry bead designer Andrea Spira while she was on a Mexican holiday.

Last year Spira and her beading partner Freddie Allen organized the first showing of the Hernandez’ work, where many of the couple’s fine pieces were sold. As a result of the success of last year’s showing, the Oaxacan artists arranged with Spira to make a return trip.

This year, in addition to the display of rugs and carvings, Spira and Allen will be showing and selling their beaded necklaces made of semi-precious stones such as amber, agate, opal, citrine and many more.

Spira and Allen’s necklaces, sold under the company name Amulets, are handstrung with many one-of-a-kind beads acquired around the world. Prices for the necklaces range from $75 to $450. Rug weavings are priced at $125 and up, while the carvings cost about $40 and up.

The showing is free and open to the public. For more information contact Freddie@galivantgroup.com.
