Laidlaw Transit Services, Inc. and Logan Transit help local family on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”

(PRLEAP.COM) Laidlaw Transit Services, Inc. and its client, the Logan Transit District, recently helped a Logan family by participating in ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” The Pauni family was selected by the television show to have a 5,500 square-ft home built for them. In 2004, this 11-member family lost their father, leaving Mrs. Pauni to provide for them on a small catering business salary and from the income from other odd jobs.

The Pauni’s home is located in a small neighborhood where space is tight. This would become a problem, as a large number of volunteers, equipment, crew and cameras would need to fit into a very small space. That’s when Logan Transit and Laidlaw Transit Services stepped in. During that week, the more than 4,700 volunteers were staged several blocks away and transported by Laidlaw employees for 24 hours a day. Many of the 27 Laidlaw employees who drove the shuttle donated their time, including Project Manager Nathan Coats. Other volunteers included Ron Bushman, a Laidlaw Business Development Manager, and Todd Beutler, General Manager of the Logan Transit District. Todd said of the project,” You get caught up in the excitement of the project when you are driving the volunteers to and from the work site.”

Nathan Coats, Laidlaw’s Project Manager, added, “It’s great to see people get involved in something outside of themselves. Even at 3 a.m. there were more volunteers than they needed. It was amazing. This has been a great opportunity for our community to come together in the great cause of service.”
Two Logan Transit drivers, Steve Gittins and Jeff Spruance, were selected to load the furniture into the newly built house. Steve is the 2005 Utah State Roadeo winner and Jeff is the current Utah State Roadeo winner.

The episode will air November 26, 2006 at 7 p.m. on ABC.
