Politmus Seeks Media Bias Monitors

Today's mainstream media promises its reports are fair and balanced; but, how can the audience be sure?

Politmus, a beta social network for political activists, news junkies and media critics, is trying to answer that with a new web app that allows users to rate the political bias of websites.
According to co-founder Joe Sanders, Politmus was designed to be an easy way to let people express their opinions on media bias.

"You just enter a website's url into the review box, use your cursor to mark where you think the story rates on the bias bar, write a few comments if you want, and click 'rate it,' " Sanders said. "It's that easy."

The company is currently seeking a broader membership.

"We want members from all sides of the spectrum, from left to right and everything in between," Sanders said. "We believe the more diversity of opinion we have, the more accurate the rating."

According to Politmus co-founder Matt Swayne, the rating site can be used for more than just media stories.
"Everything on the web has some sort of bias," Swayne said. "It could be a Senator's web site, a celebrity site, a MySpace profile, a corporation's home page, or a product being sold online."
"If it has a url, you can rate it," Swayne said.
