ASTM International Launches Digital Library on Scitation

Melville, NY - ASTM International announced today that it plans to launch its new ASTM Digital Library on Scitation, the STM online publishing platform offered by the American Institute of Physics in mid-December. The ASTM Digital Library unifies the organization's many essential publications into one seamless online resource, which includes ASTM's three journals, Geotechnical Testing Journal, Journal of Testing and Evaluation, and Journal of ASTM International. In addition, the digital library hosts the publisher's manuals, monographs, data series, and technical publications.

"Scitation was the natural choice to host our digital library, as they've delivered consistent, high-quality service on numerous other projects of late," said John Pace, ASTM's Vice President of Publications and Marketing. "AIP has taken us to the next level in online publishing, enabling capabilities such as article collection and the ability to download citations in a number of convenient formats. With the ASTM Digital Library, we're able to provide our members, as well as the STM community at large, with easy access to our online content."

Digital library users will also enjoy many other features that Scitation can enable for its more than 150 hosted publications. Institutional subscribers will see no interruption in their access. Individual subscribers will be able to access their online subscriptions after reregistering with Scitation.

"We're very happy that ASTM chose Scitation to host its digital library," said Darlene Walters, Senior VP of Publishing for AIP. "Over the past two years, we've worked closely with ASTM International to enhance their publishing program. The digital library project has been the most ambitious effort to date."

AIP Publishing Services also provides production services for ASTM's three journals and for their book program. These services include the conversion of author files to XML, proofreading, delivering PDF proofs to authors, preparing corrected files for online and print publication, copyediting, page makeup, plus a host of other functions that contribute to an error-free, streamlined process. AIP will also incorporate clearly rendered graphics files, and provide XML data feeds to bibliographic database aggregators.

ASTM International is one of the largest voluntary consensus standards development organizations in the world - a trusted source for technical standards for materials, products, systems, and services. Known for their high technical quality and market relevancy, ASTM International standards have an important role in the information infrastructure that guides design, manufacturing and trade in the global economy.

Scitation is a division of the American Institute of Physics, a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies. In addition to its own publications, AIP's Scitation online platform hosts content from many of the world's leading STM publishers including: The American Physical Society, AVS Science and Technology of Materials, Interfaces, and Processing, Acoustical Society of America, American Association of Physicists in Medicine, American Association of Physics Teachers, American Society of Civil Engineers, ASME International, The Electrochemical Society, IS&T - The Society for Imaging Science & Technology, Laser Institute of America, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering, and a number of other societies and publishers.
