Chuck Mattes Receives United Van Lines "Gene Anderson/United Excellence Award"

Chuck Mattes, executive vice president and co-owner of William B. Meyer, Inc., Stratford, Conn., has received the United Van Lines “Gene Anderson/United Excellence award,” which recognizes an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the United system. The award is named in honor of the late Gene Anderson of Lubbock, Texas, a long-time United Van Lines board member and the corporation’s treasurer at the time of his death in 1985.

Mattes’ selection was announced by Richard H. McClure, president of United Van Lines, at the van line’s recent convention held in Colorado Springs, Colo. In revealing the winner of this prestigious honor, McClure referred to Mattes as "A true gentleman, never satisfied with the status quo, always challenging his agency team and the UniGroup management to do things differently, better, and more efficiently…always placing the customer first."

Mattes joined William B. Meyer, Inc. in 1971. He was elected to the United Board of Directors in 1988, and he was Board Secretary from 1999 to 2004. For most of his tenure, he served on the Board’s Operations and Marketing Committees, but he currently chairs the Audit Committee.
