Harrington College of Design Announces Best of Show Award in
The Holga Challenge Competition

CHICAGO, IL — Harrington College of Design Digital Photography student, Jonathon Webber of Valparaiso Indiana received overall Best of Show in The Holga Challenge. The photography competition, which was open to all Harrington students, faculty and staff, was developed by Dirk Fletcher, department chair for the digital photography (DP) program at Harrington.

Participants in The Holga Challenge were given a Holga camera and film with 24 hours to shoot 12 pictures from which to select their one favorite. “One of my instructors at Harrington encouraged me to participate,” said Webber. “Being limited to twelve shots has taught me to be more selective in subject matter and framing. That kind of selectivity required a lot of advance planning on my part.”

Other student finalists included Amy Avila, Amber Hackett, Jolene Taschner, and Citlali Quintana. The Holga Challenge was sponsored by the Chicago Chapter of American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), CSW Film Systems of Chicago, Calumet Photographic, Helix Photo and Legion Paper. Photo entries were judged by Peter Bosy, photographer and Harrington instructor; Ron Gould, Photographer, ASMP board member and Harrington College of Design Instructor; John Laning from Calumet Photographic; Erik Parks, president of Harrington College of Design; David B. Seide, photographer and ASMP Chicago president; Bryan Styer; Harrington College of Design Director of IT; and Robert Tolchin, photographer and Harrington College of Design instructor.

Winners received Holga cameras, courtesy of Helix Photo, and 20 rolls of film donated by Calumet Photographic.
