GUESS INC’S RECENT SERPENT AD FEATURING PARIS HILTON DEFIES COMPANY’S CRITICS

March 29, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Guess’s latest jean's ad featuring Paris Hilton draped with a serpent continues the company's long trend of using sexy young models in alluring poses despite recent outcries and boycotts from the American Family Association (AMA), and the American Decency Associations (ADA).

Of recent, “Guess Inc." spared no expense for several two-page foldout ads featured in magazines such as “In Style”, “Maxim”, and “Vanity Fair” showing Paris laying on a bed wearing Guess jeans, with only a live snake for a top. Provocative network TV performer, and Las Vegas entertainer Maria Gara, AKA, "The SnakeBabe", provided the large serpent, the symbol of temptation. To add to the fodder, when Guess’s Co-Chairman Paul Marciano was approached by the AFA he had this to say, "If you don't like the pictures in our store, please just stay home. It's as simple as that." The sexy serpent ad is receiving extreme media exposure both here and abroad.

Maria Gara, the original “SnakeBabe”, has been dubbed “Snake Handler to the Stars” and Paris is not the only performer to hold SnakeBabe’s reptiles. Past petters include other Hollywood Hotties such as Shania Twain and Carmen Electra. Maria has shared her slithery serpents at parties whose celebrity guest lists included Pierce Brosnan, Leonardo Decaprio, David Spade, Robin Leach and the guys from Steely Dan.

When not performing with showbiz hubby Steve August, Maria saves reptiles from certain death, nursing the animals back to health at her Las Vegas rescue center. Once tamed, they go on to be held, petted and photographed with Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Snakes have always created various reactions from people. They have been symbols of power, sexuality, treachery, and even conveyed healing and wisdom. For many, they are a symbol of evil, most often associated with Satan and the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden. But for advertisers, they remain attention getters, and big business.
