XP Events Selected as Lead Retail Product Consultant for National Sports Museum
(
PRLEAP.COM) XP Events, the turn-key retail merchandising partner for sports organizations and world-class events, has been selected as the lead retail product consultant for the National Sports Museum (
www.thesportsmuseum.com) in Lower Manhattan. The National Sports Museum, which will open in Spring 2008, is North America’s first and only museum dedicated to the history, grandeur and significance of all of sports. It will feature interactive exhibits and memorabilia celebrating baseball, basketball, football, hockey, golf, tennis, boxing, track & field, soccer, swimming, lacrosse, extreme sports, auto racing, equestrian events and other sports.
As the museum’s retail product consultant, XP Events will:
o Serve as the National Sports Museum’s lead consultant regarding retail operations and product development at the museum, including collaborating with the museum’s retail design team regarding development of the physical space for the museum’s retail store.
o Provide strategic guidance and tactical support regarding design and production of branded apparel and other unique retail merchandise that will be marketed through the National Sports Museum’s retail operations.
o Establish best practices for retail operations at the museum, such as front office and back office policies, processes and technologies.
o Ensure that retail operations align with the National Sports Museum’s overall brand strategy through signage, retail fixtures, product labeling, retail collateral and other materials.
“We chose XP Events as our partner because the team has such a strong background in managing retail operations and developing retail product lines for major sports entities like the NBA, the U.S. Olympic team and many others,” said John Urban, President & General Manager of the National Sports Museum. “The National Sports Museum will be a singular experience for visitors because it brings together highlights of so many sports and sports museums under a single roof – and our goal is to make our retail store the ultimate shopping experience for sports fans as well.”
Added Urban: “XP Events has a forward-looking team that understands how to successfully stay in front of ever-changing trends in the retail market, and that will be a key asset for us as we plan for the launch of the museum next year.”
“Our goal is to put the National Sports Museum’s retail operations in a position to succeed when the museum opens its doors next year. Retail merchandise has the potential to be a significant revenue generator for an attraction like the National Sports Museum, and one of XP Events’ key responsibilities will be to ensure that the National Sports Museum has the most exciting collection of retail merchandise available at any sports attraction,” said Alan Fey, President of XP Events. “The XP Events team will work closely with the National Sports Museum’s staff and the museum’s unique partners to make the museum’s retail store a destination unto itself.”
The National Sports Museum has partnered with more than 50 single-sport museums and halls of fame in North America, each of which will provide exhibits and memorabilia to be displayed at the National Sports Museum. These partner organizations include halls of fame such as those for Basketball, Hockey, College Football, Soccer and the PGA/LPGA; national governing bodies such as Special Olympics, USA Hockey, USA Baseball and U.S. Soccer, museums, like those celebrating the Negro Leagues, Horseracing and Skiing; and NASCAR. The NSM is also the new home of the Heisman Trophy and will be home to the Billie Jean King International Women’s Sports Center.
