iWonder Designs Announces Web-Based File Sharing for Businesses

December 20, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
COLUMBIA, MD - iWonder Designs announces the alpha release of Nexus, an open-source, web-based file sharing and management application for use in small businesses and online communities. The alpha is available from SourceForge and can be downloaded from the Nexus project page here: http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/filenexus. The application requires PHP 5, MySQL and a web server such as Apache or Internet Information Server.

iWonder Designs leverages its experience in both web-based applications and desktop programs to bring a new, open-source offering to the file management space. Based on secure, open-source technologies, Nexus offers network administrators and web-masters a secure, easy-to-use and powerful way of centralizing data and maintaining tight control over access to files.

Nexus is based around a “File Library” which is controlled entirely by the administrator. Administrators add to and organize the library. They also allow or deny user access to individual files based on user groups that are also defined by the administrator.

Nexus is not only a one-way file distribution system. Registered users have access to their own space called the FileBox. Administrators can decide how much drive space is in a FileBox and have access to all the files within. In this way, registered users can propose new files to add to the Library by adding them to his or her FileBox.

Another key benefit of Nexus is that it is not a hosted solution. It can therefore be downloaded and installed anywhere. Network administrators may choose to install it behind the company firewall thereby assuring their files are well-protected.

“Although Nexus is a file manager it’s interface is web-based, “ said Karim Shehadeh, President and CEO of iWonder Designs. “By melding the familiarity of standard file managers such as Windows Explorer and the MacOS Finder with the benefits of AJAX and modern web technologies, Nexus successfully bridges the gap between a user’s desktop and the web browser.”
