Dr. Annie Louise Wilkerson
Foundation Recognizes Her Work As A Doctor, Volunteer And Philanthropist
RALEIGH, N.C. – Speaking of Women’s Health posthumously honored Dr. Annie Louise Wilkerson at the Speaking of Women’s Health conference on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the North Raleigh Hilton. Dr. Wilkerson was recognized for her work as a doctor, dedicated volunteer and a generous philanthropist. Dr. Wilkerson, who passed away in 2005, worked for 53 years in private practice at Wilkerson Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as at Rex Hospital as president of staff and chief of the OB/GYN department. She was active in the community on local boards such as the United Way and the American Cancer Society as well as a member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church. After her death it was revealed that she donated 155 acres of land near Falls Lake to the City of Raleigh to be protected as a nature park for the people of Raleigh to enjoy.
“Dr. Wilkerson touched many women’s lives, ” said Tobi Bowen, beneficiary sponsor member for the event. “Through her time spent as a doctor and local volunteer, she showed the determination to help women that needed to be highlighted with this award.”
