LAKEVILLE, MA… The good news is that we are living longer. Americans 65 and older now total about 34 million. This number is expected to double in the next 20 years to 70 million by the year 2030 as the baby-boom generation enters retirement.

The bad news is that many of us will face physical limitations as we age. Dave Austin, Founder and President of Lift & Care Systems in Lakeville, MA has established a Senior Home Retrofit Division to develop customized solutions for seniors who wish to remain in their own homes, helping to address the long term needs of this burgeoning segment of the US population.

“Accessibility and adaptability are two key areas that need to be assessed when looking at home modifications that will enhance the day-to-day safety and quality of living for seniors who wish to age in place,” notes Austin.

Lift & Care Systems, established in 1993 to serve the needs of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut residents by providing customized solutions to enhance a user’s mobility, is now offering free consultations to seniors to help determine which physical modifications might be feasible to create a safer and more friendly environment in their home as they age.

The Senior Home Retrofit Division of Lift & Care Systems will work with seniors to develop a custom package of adaptations and improvements to retrofit their home based on their changing needs. The division will focus on accommodating the differing physical ability levels of seniors to improve both accessibility and mobility within their home.

For example, simple physical improvements or modifications that are affordable and don’t require a complete remodeling of a home might include such adaptations as: the installation of grab bars in the bathroom, or the addition of a hand held shower, or a shower seat or a raised toilet seat. Ramps or stair lifts can also be installed without the major renovation of a home.

SureHands Lift Systems
Lift & Care Systems also offers the SureHands line of patient lift systems which are so remarkable that they have been featured on two episodes of ABC-TV's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." ?A SureHands lift & care system was installed to help make a home ADA compliant and enable the resident to transfer and accomplish his normal activities for daily living. This multi-directional SureHands system was mounted to the ceiling connecting the bedroom to the bath, allowing the resident greater mobility, free of floor based obstacles.
