TIP Academy – Encinitas - taking applications for 2007-08 school year
(PRLEAP.COM) TIP Academy, a new public charter school in Encinitas currently has opened enrollment for the upcoming academic year. TIP is interested in drawing students from all backgrounds and academic levels; as a public charter school, there is no tuition. TIP Academy is looking for students who can and will become scholars, questioners, and most importantly, active learners. Open enrollment ends on January 31, 2007; applications may be submitted online at www.tipacademy.org.
In its startup phase, with facilities rented from St. Mark Lutheran Church in Encinitas, the school has made use of every square inch, finding that it ultimately was required to rent a trailer to expand its enrollment. The staff, students, and parents have found the experience of being in a “startup school” to be a benefit in making the entire school family feel like a team.
In addition, the California Association of the Gifted is offering a two day teacher institute on April 13th and 14th which will be hosted at TIP Academy and a one day Parent Institute on Saturday, April 14th. Information on these offerings can be found at www.cagifted.org.
TIP Academy opened its doors in September of 2006. It is the first charter school in the Encinitas Union School District (EUSD), the only charter school of its kind in the state, and the first charter school to be endorsed by a teaching association, California Association for the Gifted (CAG). TIP Academy is the first elementary school with a differentiated curriculum designed to meet the needs of gifted children and made available to all children. The curriculum comes largely from Dr. Sandy Kaplan, of the University of Southern California (USC).
In partnership with USC, TIP Academy takes part in research showing the benefit of a gifted curriculum for all children. They also hold teacher institutes to share how to implement this proven curriculum with other teachers and schools within the state.
