Scripted Reality, is this the fate of Television? Filmmaker Dhaval Mehta tackles this growing cycle of mass deception.
(PRLEAP.COM) Dhaval learned from an early age that certain emotions can only be captured when the actors, unknowingly watched, are viewed at their most truthful and vulnerable moments. He viewed several children dashing around frantically for a little bird, and if caught, they would receive a reward. After several futile attempts, the bird eventually flew away. Dhaval captured the entire ordeal, running for the bird, shouting matches, and finally the grave disappointment turned into blame games between the children. Such was his first documentary, and by far his favorite, but since then Dhaval has been intrigued by the depth of human emotions, as seen in his recent series of short films (www.truepicturesinc.com). All films spurred from his wide range of life experiences, various positions held, travels, and mere observations of every day life.
Dhaval leads a dual life; Marketing and Advertising for a software company during the day, and shooting his films on his spare time. Filmmaking offers a creative outlet, one which cannot be sufficed by other means. His fifth short film will be released in the upcoming months, entitled “The Reality of You and Me”, shot with an incredible budget of only $100, in a single day in Brooklyn. The entire film was improvised by two actors who had discussions with the director prior to each scene. The ending of the film itself was created on the spot since the improvisations chose the flow of the story.
As a native of Bombay, growing up in Queens, Dhaval holds true to his Jain beliefs of strict vegetarianism. His film set is unique; he does not allow the purchase of meat or any products harmful to animals on set. He is also writing the script for a Jain Television show scheduled to air on TV Asia.
