HOUSTON SPECTRUM UNLIMITED RELEASES INDIE FILM, “JUST ANOTHER DAY”

Houston Spectrum Unlimited, an entertainment production company based in Los Angeles, announced completion of the independent short film “Just Another Day.” The dramatic film, produced in conjunction with JahnaHugh Productions and L.A. Beats Entertainment, is a J.C. Houston motion picture. The plot of “Just Another Day,” directed by Jahna Houston, concerns a man with a gun and a heart full of grief who arrives at a therapy session to confront his faith, his God and his therapist about why he was the sole survivor of a drunken driving accident that killed his wife and children. Of this film, Jahna says, "We're not trying to answer any deep spiritual or religious questions for anyone, but share an emotional place that everyone will experience at least once in their lifetime, through their own experience or that of someone they know."

“Just Another Day” is the directorial debut of Jahna Houston, who also co-wrote the screenplay. Her film background includes former membership in WIF (Women in Film), work as postproduction lab tech, color timing, and unit publicity. During her years in postproduction, Jahna trained as a script supervisor under Jim Kelly Durgin. She was the 1st Assistant Director on the independent film, “Town of Faith” (1996) and the anti-violence short film, “Too Young to Die” (2003). Her next directing projects include the short film, “Faces of Rage,” to be completed in February 2007, a documentary about the Montford Point Marines and an independent feature film, “Closets,” both slated to begin production in February 2008.

Fitz Houston stars as Leonard Watkins in “Just Another Day.” He also co-wrote the screenplay and is the Executive Producer. Fitz’s numerous television credits include “N.Y.P.D. Blue,” “Jane Doe,” “That’s So Raven,” “Jag,” “It’s All Relative,” State of Grace,” “Watching Ellie,” “Seinfeld,” “The District,” “The X-Files,” “Titus,” “Judging Amy,” “Family Law,” “Sister Sister,” “Mike Hammer: Private Eye,” “The Parent’ Hood” and “Sparks”. His film credits include starring roles in the feature films, “Get Thee Behind Me,” “The Deposition” and “Cold Comfort.”
Houston’s many theater credits include lead roles in the hit gospel musicals, “A Sugga Daddy Ain’t Always Sweet,” “Get Thee Behind Me,” “Summers in Suffolk,” “Fences,” “Once on this Island,” the title role of the Wiz in “The Wiz,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Luke in the Amen Corner,” the national touring cast of “Lunch,” Robert Townsend's staged adaptation of “The Five Heartbeats” and the national touring production of “Woman of the Year” starring Lauren Bacall. A seasoned stage actor, Cliff Gober co-stars as Dr. West in “Just Another Day.” He is also a prolific writer/producer with several successful projects to his credit. Cliff was the writer/producer of the independent feature film, “30 Miles,” starring Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (“Cooley High,” “Welcome Back Kotter,” “Claudine”). The film was voted Runner-up: Best Feature Film at the 2004 Hollywood Black Film Festival and was an official selection to both the 2004 American Black Film Festival and the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, CA. Cliff’s first feature-length screenplay, “Lawless,” was a semifinalist in the 1999 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Competition, sponsored by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and was optioned for production by Alex Rode Productions (“Norma Rae,” “Nothing in Common,” “The Other Sister”). Cliff also wrote and directed a short film entitled “Snapshots: A Love Story,” starring JoNell Kennedy, which was an entry in the 2003 Hollywood Black Film Festival.

The director of photography for “Just Another Day” is Richard L. Givens who was also co-Executive Producer. He has produced and directed two independent films under his LA Beats Entertainment. His directorial debut “Rampart,” (2005) is available in stores now. His new release is the powerful drama “Broken Glass.”

Houston Spectrum Unlimited will be submitting “Just Another Day” to the prestigious Method Fest , the San Francisco Black Film Festival, the Valley Film Fest and other festivals in the future. When asked what it was like working with her husband and directing him in his project, Jahna laughs, "Well…we're still married… and getting ready to do two more together. Either one of us is crazy, or we’re a good team!"
