Learn about Sustainable Interior Design at The Savannah Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Jan. 23 meeting.

(PRLEAP.COM) (SAVANNAH) – Learn about Sustainable Interior Design at The Savannah Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Jan. 23 meeting. Sustainable design goes beyond energy and water savings. Americans spend 90 percent of their time indoors, so occupant comfort and health are critical to having a green building.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, January 23 from 5:45-7 p.m. at the Marshall House. RSVP to tlinstroth@melaver.com by January 19.

Jay Hughes of Millers of Savannah will speak about Sustainable Interior Design, and SCAD professor Margo Jones will highlight the LEED Commercial Interiors rating system.

Jay Hughes is the division manager for Millers of Savannah, a Haworth Architectural Interiors provider. Millers is committed to providing sustainable solutions to the art of building. Hughes will discuss The Greening of Indoor Architecture, the migration to sustainable technologies in the building arts and how flexibility and improved air quality make for both a healthier quality of work life and a healthier bottom line for the enterprise.

Margo Jones is a professor of Interior Design at SCAD, and has over 25 years of significant experience in interior design working with corporate, government and developer clients on projects located throughout the southeastern United States. Margo will talk about practical application of sustainable design principles for interiors including space planning, daylighting, and materials selection. She will highlight the LEED Commercial Interiors rating system.

The Savannah Chapter of the United States Green Building Council is dedicated to promoting sustainable design and green building throughout the Creative Coast. The group meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday of the month in the Law Room of the Marshall House hotel (123 E. Broughton). The meetings are open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend. The USGBC-Savannah Chapter seeks to educate the public on the long-term benefits of green building and how sustainable design can be integrated or implemented into one’s life.
