Teacher Goes to the Head of the C.L.A.S.S.
(
PRLEAP.COM) Janet Goliger, physical education teacher, 2nd degree black belt, and author, saw the need for a safety education program in her schools and created the C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense program. “This unique self-defense program saves children’s lives, while raising their self-confidence”, says Janet Goliger. “It teaches students how to protect themselves in any threatening situation, while learning in a non-threatening environment. It is designed to be simple enough to include in any physical education or classroom curriculum giving all children the opportunity to learn basic self-defense and awareness techniques.” The C.L.A.S.S. Teacher’s Manual and Instructional video was developed for fellow teachers to add to their current curriculum. Her colleagues embraced this program as she presented at local and state conferences, making C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense a necessary part of every physical education curriculum.
Janet’s community self-defense workshops for children and women were met with great enthusiasm, with participants returning for refresher and advanced classes. These students requested a book of their own to use as a guide and to correctly practice the self-defense techniques they had learned. Janet agreed to their requests.
Janet’s new book, “I Need to be SAFE: I’m Worth It! How to Protect Your Child from Danger” takes the C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense program to the next level. “It focuses on raising the child’s awareness skills while empowering them with basic self-defense techniques that work. I added a new array of techniques in this book, illustrated with step-by-step photos and directions for parents to practice with their children”, says Janet Goliger. Janet’s book signings at schools and local bookstores and her inspirational demonstrations have made her book very popular among parents, children and women.
Safety Tips For Survival:
Be aware! Know your surroundings.
• Be alert. Pay attention to anything that appears different.
• Stay ahead of slow moving cars.
• Back up immediately when approached by a stranger. Turn and run to a safe place as quickly as possible.
• Walk with confidence, don’t look like a victim. Stand up straight and scan your environment frequently, turning your head side-to side.
• Anticipate a dangerous situation. Always be prepared to escape mentally and physically.
Grabbed by surprise
• React quickly. Don’t let your attacker get a strong hold on you making is impossible for you to defend yourself.
• Make as much noise as possible. Throw all your possessions to the ground allowing them to be scattered. No attacker wants evidence lying around.
• Kick, yell, and act wildly to escape from a potential abductor.
• Use survival techniques: stomp on the foot, kick to the knees, elbow to the abdomen and face.
• Use a weapon if possible. Turn everyday objects like a pencil, or anything rigid or sharp, as a weapon against your attacker.
• Run quickly to a safe place or populated area. Never continue to fight.
