Thycotic Addresses Security and the Mobile Device Craze with Newest Secret Server Update

January 18, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Washington, DC - Thycotic Software, a Microsoft Gold certified partner, today announces the latest version of its web-based password manager, Secret Server. Improvements to the security and the user interface make this the safest and most productive Secret Server to date.

Security is the primary concern for enterprises in need of a password management utility. Secret Server 2.1 addresses this issue by providing AES 256 bit encryption along with SHA 512 for hashing. The implementation of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256 bit encryption gives Secret Server the highest available encryption. This particular encryption algorithm is approved by the National Security Agency to protect U.S. government classified information.

Secret Server uses hashing and salting to create a "digital fingerprint" for user login passwords. This security tool ensures that a user's password is never revealed. The implementation of SHA 512, salting and AES 256 bit encryption provides users with the safest web-based password management solution.

“With SHA512 you never need to worry that your password is stolen, even if the database is compromised,” says Kevin Jones, Senior .NET Developer, Thycotic Software. “In addition to the encryption and hashing, Secret Server is all-around secure because its auditing tool allows you to view the amount of times someone else has accessed a password you share.”

Secret Server has also become more user friendly in the 2.1 release. When creating a "Secret Type," users now have explanations of each field. For example, if you were filling out the "Transit Routing Number" field for a bank account secret, the description tells you that a transit routing number is what the depository bank uses to route the check back to the drawee bank.

Traditionally, Secret Server has been an application available only on computers. This release introduces Secret Server to many handheld mobile devices. Secret Server is now compatible with Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Palm and many different types of cell phones. Users can literally access their secrets from anywhere.
