Business professionals who have come to the US from other countries must tailor their correspondence to American business writing style to achieve desired results. Executive Writing: American Style, just released by Apocryphile Press, serves as a business writing style and grammar guide for foreign-born professionals. The book is an updated version of the popular Executive Writing: A Style Manual for the Business World, first released in 1997. The new edition is also expected to gain international attention, helping business people worldwide who conduct business with American clients, partners or service providers.

Through providing business writing seminars for almost two decades, the authors developed an understanding of the problems faced by those whose first language is not English. The book simulates their seminars, in which they brought participants through the process of creating and editing their own documents. Special features include idioms defined throughout, a glossary of idioms, grammar guides, and cultural style tips. For instance, American business style is more direct in tone than business writing in many other cultures. When dealing with American businesses, using American style helps professionals from anywhere in the world convey effective, results-oriented messages.

Harriet Diamond and Marsha Fahey, two of the authors, traveled throughout Southeast Asia teaching the course that became the springboard for this book. Linda Eve worked with Harriet and Marsha to develop these and other courses and the three, together, created Executive Writing: American Style. “We are grateful to our course participants, whose needs and questions formulated the basis for this book, and we dedicate the Executive Writing: American Style to them,” says Harriet.

Executive Writing: American Style is now available online at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. For more information, visit the authors’ websites at http://HarrietDiamond.net and http://LindaEveDiamond.com.
