Vallejo, CA — MV Transportation, Inc., the nation’s largest privately-held passenger transportation contracting firm, has been named the 2006 Large Business of the Year by the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce.

MV officials accepted the award before more than 200 civic and business leaders during the Chamber’s 131st Installation Dinner on January 19. This is the eleventh year the Chamber has selected and announced its choices for annual outstanding businesses of the year.

“We are absolutely thrilled to receive such a prestigious honor,” said Jon Monson, MV’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our various work with the community and partnership with the local business community have been very rewarding for MV.”

Nominees were judged on the following criteria:
• Demonstration of Creativity, Innovation and Investment in their Business
• Demonstration of Socially Responsible Business Practices and Inspiration to Businesses through Dedication and Caring
• Demonstration of Commitment to the Support and Promotion of this Community

During the presentation, MV was heralded by Chamber officials as an “innovative contractor who supplies top quality, safe and reliable service at reasonable prices.”

Officials continued, saying “MV Transportation and Vallejo Transit perform a critical service for the citizens of Vallejo and has significantly upgraded both the product and service. MV has tremendous respect for its employees, many of whom have been with company for 20, 30 or even 40 years. MV’s employees are active volunteers in all types of Vallejo community activities and organizations, including the Red Cross, volunteering at local senior centers, and little leagues.”

MV Transportation/Vallejo Transit supports the Chamber in many ways. This firm was also a generous sponsor of the recent Vallejo Business Alliance Trade Mission, providing complimentary transportation to and from the airport for all 22 City delegates traveling to the Philippines.

In March 2005, MV acquired a controlling interest in Vallejo Citizens Transit Corporation (VCTC). VCTC has been providing fixed route transit services under contract to the City of Vallejo for 50 years. Formed by several community leaders in 1956 to save the City's bus system, VCTC is one of the oldest bus companies in the United States. The acquisition added another substantial fixed-route public transit contract to the MV family. MV has been operating the ADA paratransit services in Vallejo for more than 10 years.
