Christine McNeil Montano (aka The Thinking Mother) was so impressed by the newly released picture book The Zoo, written and illustrated by South Korean native, Suzy Lee, that she dedicated an entire page on her site to this title. According to Montano, the topic of getting separated from one’s parents, the major theme of The Zoo, is important and “this book is a good way for parents to start speaking about that with children.” The story itself has minimal text, which she claims captivated her, and her nine-year-old son. “The story is told more through the illustrations than in words, and there are entire pages that are wordless.”

“It is hard to describe what this story is like and to do it justice,” The Thinking Mother boasts, but when summing it up in one sentence, states that The Zoo is “a fun imaginative, light-hearted story.” The Thinking Mother, who devotes her life to home schooling her two children, can be found online, where she discusses home schooling and family life on her blog (http://thethinkingmother.blogspot.com).
