BELDEN® FORMS STRATEGIC ALLIANCE WITH AIRTIGHT® NETWORKS TO PROVIDE ENTERPRISES WITH COMPLETE, SECURE WLAN SOLUTIONS

January 24, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
RICHMOND, IN – Belden, a world leader in the development of signal transmission products for wired and wireless enterprise networks, as well as industrial, broadcast, residential and security markets, recently announced it has formed a strategic alliance with AirTight Networks of Mountain View, CA, a leading provider of wireless intrusion prevention and performance management (WIPPM) solutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Belden will refer its enterprise networking customers in need of wireless security measures beyond 802.11i and basic AP Rogue detection to AirTight Networks and its industry-leading SpectraGuard® family of products and services. Conversely, AirTight Networks can refer its customers to the Belden Wireless Solution, an interference-free wireless LAN system designed to provide for the seamless convergence of data, video and Voice over Wi-Fi® (VoWLAN). Intensive testing has proven the seamless compatibility and interoperability of the two companies’ products, which together can offer customers secure wireless mobility throughout the enterprise, combined with an unmatched level of WLAN performance.

Bill Miller, Belden’s Director of Marketing for New Technologies, notes: “Our alliance with AirTight Networks will provide Belden customers with expanded options for protecting the security of their networks and integrity of their data. Through mutual referrals, we can offer solutions for enterprise networks of every size, whether wireless LANs or wired networks incorporating numerous wireless access points – from remote field sales personnel or service representatives, for example. This is good news, especially today when many organizations have become more aware of the urgent need to mitigate security risks and prevent unwanted intrusion into their networks.”

David Canavan, AirTight Networks’ Vice President of Business Development, adds: “We are
delighted to partner with Belden, the acknowledged leader in network cabling and wireless solutions. In the fast-growing arena of wireless networks, our complementary core competencies will enable us to better support our enterprise customers and meet increasing customer demands for high-performance, secure and reliable networking infrastructures and completely integrated, best-of-breed WLAN solutions.”

The new Belden Wireless Solution features a distinctive architecture that is fundamentally different from that of standard WLANs, which use cell-based technologies requiring complex RF Cell Planning to avoid co-channel interference. Belden’s Wireless Solution uses a unique Channel Blanket topology to allow each radio channel to be used everywhere, at every access point, thereby creating blankets of continuous wireless coverage with no roaming latency or co-channel interference problems. High throughput is achieved even when cell traffic is high and full compliance with IEEE 802.11a/b/g protocol and security standards is maintained.

AirTight Networks’ patented, award-winning SpectraGuard Enterprise solution outperforms its competitors in wireless intrusion prevention, providing a robust, scalable and easy-to-manage wireless intrusion prevention and performance management system. The SpectraGuard family of wireless security solutions has established its industry leadership position by delivering the key elements of an effective wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS):

• Detecting and correctly classifying wireless threats – to catch all threats, while minimizing false alarms

• Preventing (multiple, simultaneous) wireless threats – while continuing to scan for new ones

• Accurately locating the wireless threats on a floor map – so they can be removed.

As shown in the February 2006 Tolly Group report, the March 2006 Information Security Magazine review of WIPS solutions, and the May 2006 Tower Group report - AirTight’s SpectraGuard Enterprise outperforms its competitors in wireless intrusion prevention functionality. AirTight Networks’ solutions scale from a single laptop to networks with millions of wireless devices.
