Banking on HR Technology: RSI Bank Realizes Significant Returns with CheckPoint HR

January 23, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Edison, NJ (January 23, 2007) – CheckPoint HR, LLC, provider of a Web-based platform to automate all aspects of human resources, payroll services and benefits operations, today announced that RSI Bank, formerly The Rahway Savings Institution, one of New Jersey’s oldest financial institutions, is gaining payroll efficiencies using its on-demand HR platform. Since January 2006, the Rahway, NJ-based bank has optimized CheckPoint HR’s Web-Based Human Resource Management System (HRMS) to automate payroll and create a portal for employee self-service. CheckPoint HR’s 24/7 on-demand, Web-based platform automates all aspects of the HR lifecycle, ranging from recruiting, background checks, and benefits outsourcing to employee self-service and training.

In the past four years, RSI has grown from a one branch community bank in Rahway into a three location financial services institution with offices in Linden, Long Branch and a fourth branch opening in Woodbridge, NJ in 2007. With the employee count tripling from 30 to 94 in that time period, it was paramount for the bank to enhance its payroll processes. With only 30 employees, Kerrie Totten, Director of Human Resources for RSI, and her bank president handled the payroll function but, as a one-person HR department, she realized the need for a more robust solution to accommodate and scale with the bank’s growth surge.

Mrs. Totten’s overall goal was introducing a change in payroll systems without causing disruption among employees. “Many of our employees have been with us for 10, 20 or 30 years and we wanted them to experience a flawless payroll with the changeover to CheckPoint HR,” she added. “CheckPoint HR delivered and we were extremely pleased with the transition in payroll.
In addition, she needed a better HRMS that was easy to use, cost effective and offered time management capabilities. “Our previous provider could not accommodate our unique industry needs. Not only does CheckPoint HR offer more enhanced reporting but also provides the capability to produce custom reports based on our specific parameters,” Mrs. Totten explained. For example, if there are increases in medical and dental plans, she needs to present the reasons to her Board. “I can simply log into the CheckPoint HR system and retrieve the attributed costs broken down by single or family plans and set up the reports in an easy to understand format that clearly explains the changes in health plans.”
Mrs. Totten is also optimizing CheckPoint HR for employee background verification. While background checks are not required by law in most industries, employers can benefit by confirming that the applicant is accurately representing him/herself; ensuring the person has the appropriate skill set, is qualified, and can perform the job — this is critical especially within banking where money is exchanged on a daily basis and precision and accuracy are key.

With CheckPoint HR, RSI has realized significant productivity gains. “CheckPoint HR has empowered us with the tools to handle all the issues associated with running payroll and HR functions. While we may be doing more of these tasks ourselves, we are spending less time doing it. Proving out payroll, accounting for all the minute details and keeping reports together is so much easier with CheckPoint HR.”

Mrs. Totten has also encouraged employees to use the self-service capabilities offered by CheckPoint HR. CheckPoint HR’s system offers role-based security that enables employees to easily login and access their personnel file for viewing information such as paid time off (PTO), payroll history, direct deposit information, merit increases, W-2s and their annual reviews. Employees can also change certain personal information related to address, W-4 payroll deductions, and more.
