New Website Lets Users Make Ringtones From Their Own Music
(
PRLEAP.COM) Seattle, WA – Custom ringtones – the sound one hears when a cell phone rings – have become remarkably popular and profitable in recent years, and have spawned a $5 billion worldwide industry. But a new company is turning that world on its head by making it easy for customers to turn any part of any song into their own unique ringtone.
OwnYourPhone.com came into existence when co-founder Daniel Hornal saw a serious flaw in the way the ringtone system worked. He had a large CD collection. He had a new cell phone. And yet, for some reason, putting a song from his CD onto his phone required endless searching for a ringtone, giving some company up to $4, and still not getting the part of the song he wanted – if he could find the song at all. There were workarounds, but they required too much time, energy and technical knowledge to be worthwhile.
"The system just seemed stupid," Hornal said. "Why can’t I choose any song I want? And why should I have to pay for a song twice?"
OwnYourPhone.com was born. Combined with the technical skills and design vision of co-founder Adam Eivy, OwnYourPhone.com has grown into a powerful way to
make custom ringtones. It has an easy-to-use built-in editor so you can get any part of the song you want.
"The great thing about OwnYourPhone.com is that you can select exactly what you want to have on your phone, without installing any software on your computer, then download it to your phone without having to mess with cables and software," said Adam Eivy, Co-Founder of OwnYourPhone.com.
OwnYourPhone.com also allows people to make ringtones out of their own music. Independent musicians who don’t have or don’t want deals with record or ringtone companies, DJs who want to share their remixes, and people who just want to record themselves can all put their own creations on their phones.
"The site is really easy to use, and I’m super proud of it," said Hornal. "OwnYourPhone.com puts people back in the driver’s seat. We paid for the music, we paid for our phones, and it should be our decision what to do with them."
