Nashville, Tenn.—Jacquelyn Mitchard, who launched Oprah’s Book Club with her breakout New York Times bestselling novel Deep End of the Ocean, is headlining Writers For Respite on April 22. The luncheon takes place at Nashville’s Downtown Hilton Hotel from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Songwriter Victoria Banks, who wrote country singer Sara Evans’ hit “Saints And Angels,” will also perform. Tickets can be purchased at Davis Kidd Bookstore or by calling 615-269-8687.

Mitchard has personal experience with families dealing with disabilities and the main character of her new novel The Breakdown Lane (due in April) has a degenerative illness.

Mitchard is donating her time to help the Tennessee Respite Coalition (TRC) start a new Respite program for families dealing with Multiple Sclerosis. Respite, also known as the gift of time, is temporary relief for caregivers. Caregivers are people who care for spouses, parents, children, siblings or other loved ones facing a wide array of special needs, including medical conditions and other diagnoses.

Respite is often the most frequently requested and needed family support service. Respite is a preventive strategy that strengthens families, protects family health and well being, and allows individuals to remain in their own home. Respite has been shown to prevent or delay more costly out-of-home placements, reduce the risk of abuse or neglect, and to help keep all family members safe and stable.

Mitchard is available for phone interviews in advance of the event to discuss her new novel and the Writers For Respite Luncheon.

Kelly Tipler, Executive Director of the Tennessee Respite Coalition, is available for print, radio and television interviews to discuss Writers For Respite, the TRC and the importance of Respite services. She can also arrange interviews with families in need of or using Respite care.

Writers For Respite is an ongoing series featuring songwriters and authors to benefit the Tennessee Respite Coalition.
