Beijing, China – Mr. Edward Lehman, managing director of LEHMAN, LEE & XU, appeared on CCTV 9’s Dialogue, in an episode which discussed the new reforms to China's capital punishment laws. Commencing January 1 of this year, all death penalties must be reviewed by the Supreme People's Court. Mr. Lehman was joined by Professor He Jiahong of Renmin University of China.

The episode, which was first aired on January 22, 2007, is available online at the following address: http://www.cctv.com/video/dialogue/2007/01/dialogue_128_20070123_1.shtml.

In conjunction with China's economic reforms and ‘opening up’ to the rest of the world, China is now reviewing its criminal and other public policies. This change is generally viewed as welcome, providing for an additional review after judgment by the provincial people’s court. The change is more of a reversion in powers, as this right of review was delegated from the Supreme People's Court in the 1980's to the provincial level. Mr. Lehman felt this was a necessary and beneficial change, further developing China into a ‘superpower’ in both Asia and the rest of the world.
