Freedom Cleaning Services to go all green
(
PRLEAP.COM) Freedom Cleaning Services, a Ham Lake, Minnesota provider of residential and commercial cleaning services to the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan area, announced today that, effective March 19th, 2007, it would only use cleaning chemicals that reduced the level of toxicity to humans, pets and the environment, dramatically.
According to company founder Mike Rathbun, concern for the well being of Freedom’s customers and employees was the driving force behind the decision. "We believe we have a responsibility to not only make our customers homes and work places cleaner, but to make them healthier as well" said Rathbun.
In announcing the change, Rathbun noted the following statistics:
Cancer rates have continued to increase every year since 1970. Brain cancer in children is up 40% in 20 years. Toxic chemicals are largely to blame.
-NY Times, September 29, 1997
The toxic chemicals in household cleaners are three times more likely to cause cancer than air pollution.
- Environmental Protection Agency report in 1985 more than 7 million accidental poisonings occur each year, with more than 75% involving children under age 6!
-The Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons
"We feel that this decision puts Freedom Cleaning Services in a leadership position," stated Rathbun, "we’d be thrilled if every cleaning service in the Twin Cities followed suit. But it’s not about business or money, it’s about doing the right thing for our customers and our employees".
