The hopes the publishing community once pinned on ebook sales might be dismissed by some as a snipe hunt, but the truth is people actually do read ebooks, and even pay for them too. Falbe Publishing under its imprint Brave Luck Books ™ will be rewarding its ebook readers with the advance release of "Judgment Rising: The Rys Chronicles Book III" on March 1st ahead of the planned May 1st publication of the same title in trade paperback.

"The Rys Chronicles" by Tracy Falbe, who lives in Chico, California, started in January 2006 with the publication of the first two books "Union of Renegades" and "The Goddess Queen" that met with positive reviews. The Midwest Book Review called the series "an exciting treat for fantasy buffs" and said of the author that she made "a stunning debut in epic fantasy."

In addition to such official accolades, readers have warmed to "The Rys Chronicles" as a new addition to the highly competitive fantasy genre. The author has been working to complete the finishing touches on the third book "Judgment Rising," motivated by reader requests, but the birth of her second child in last April forced a delay. But production is in full swing now, and the ebook version of the third installment of "The Rys Chronicles" will be available at the Brave Luck Books ™ website by March 1st.

Along with the advance release in digital formats, ebook readers of "The Rys Chronicles" enjoy lower prices than what must be charged for trade paperbacks. Because of their physical nature, a significant investment must go into printing trade paperback books.

Falbe in no way expects for traditional print books to disappear, but she has been pleasantly surprised by the portion of sales represented by ebooks. "The digital formats just offer another way for people to access my work and I’m all for that," Falbe said.

The initial book in the series "Union of Renegades: The Rys Chronicles Book I" is available in its entirety as a free ebook download, which offers an even bigger bonus to ebook readers who get to start the series at no cost. Also, the free ebook of Book I supports the marketing of the series by triggering print sales. Because people can check out the first book as an ebook, they can decide if they like it enough to buy it in print.

"As a fantasy reader myself, I know what a bummer it is to pay to start a new series but then not get into it," Falbe said. "By giving away Book I as an ebook, I know those people who upgrade to the paperback really want it. No one has to throw away money trying my series."
