Thompson & Knight LLP is proud to announce Senior Counsel George C. Chapman is the 2007 recipient of the Heath Award presented by the Dallas County Medical Society. The award is given annually to a lay person who has provided outstanding leadership and service to medicine and the community of Dallas and will be presented at the Dallas County Medical Society’s 2007 Annual Dinner on February 17, 2007.

In 1989, the Board of Directors of the Dallas County Medical Society established the Heath Award, which is represented by a crystal Rising Star and was given its name in recognition of the combined 51 years of service and exemplary stewardship of Millard J. Heath (1945 to 1975) and Robert L. Heath (1975 to 1996). It is not required for the award to be given every year, but only as the Board determines that individuals who have provided significant service merit such recognition. Former recipients have included Ray L. Hunt and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

“I am truly honored to be receiving this award and to be included in the company of such inspiring and legendary former recipients,” says George C. Chapman. “The Dallas County Medical Society is an outstanding organization at the forefront of enhancing our community and the future of health care in Dallas, and I am excited to be a part of it.”

Mr. Chapman has been a trial lawyer at Thompson & Knight LLP for over 44 years, and has focused his practice on general and commercial litigation, probate litigation, and eminent domain litigation. A major portion of his practice has been in representing doctors and hospitals in medical malpractice suits, defending peer review decisions of medical staffs, and supporting the Dallas County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association in litigation arising from disciplinary decisions. He was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1979 and has been a panelist or speaker on medical-legal issues at meetings of the American College of Surgeons, the Texas Medical Association, and the Southwestern Legal Foundation.
